A special story using 14 thematic vocabulary words for St. Patrick's Day.
One story uses the words below. In the second story, you must fill-in-the-blanks with these words! You have permission to make a hard copy for further vocabulary study.
The following words (listed alphabetically) appear somewhere in the story below :
Story One:
- banshee, blarney, boycott, brogue, donnybrook, leprechaun, limerick, Saint Patrick, shamrock, shillelagh, smithereens, stew, stout, tanistry
Imagine the DONNYBROOK that might occur if a crowd accused SAINT PATRICK of speaking in a BROGUE, of drinking STOUT and of leaning on a SHILLELAGH! I bet even SHAMROCKS would be crushed to SMITHEREENS in the melee. That's as much BLARNEY as guessing that a LEPRECHAUN would scream LIMERICKS like a BANSHEE! In fact, if things got that mixed up, the prince, confirmed yesterday to the throne by right of TANISTRY, could insist on a BOYCOTT of all that hardy STEW!
Story Two:
For the elaborate coronation, the prince wore a robe stitched with an enormous green _____ (1). He became king by law of _____ (2). After the ceremony, while he was eating his delicious _____ (3), he became enraged. He yelled like a _____ (4) in his thick _____ (5) at the small _____ (6) because he kept chanting an inappropriate _____ (7). Furious, he picked up a heavy _____ (8) and smashed to _____ (9) an entire glass pitcher of dark brown _____ (10). Suddenly, a fight started! Even incantations and prayers to _____ (11) could not quell the _____ (12). Once the free-for-all got under control, the new king declared that in the future, he and his subjects would _____ (13) all feasts. You don't believe any of this _____ (14), do you?
